Lady Beaver Volleyball feels confident in season ahead
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s been a tough few years for the Scott City volleyball team. While they have a combined 18 wins over the last three seasons, the Lady Beavers feel this is their year to surprise some people. Seven seniors on the varsity squad, eight overall return from a team that won seven matches in 2015. Megan Gentry enters her third season as the head coach, while Shelby Kite moves up to coach the junior varsity and Dawn Hutchins returns to the SCHS volleyball staff for the first time since 2009, and will coach the C-Team. Around 30 players make up of the 2016 Scott City squad.
There’s reason to have belief of a good season. For a majority of this team, they’ve been together on varsity for the past two years. Also, the feeling is they can continue their successes from summer league in Hays into the season.
This year’s schedule has plenty of changes. While last year saw them play nearly half of their schedule in one week, this year is more spread out. It starts quickly, with a triangular in Oakley on Friday, August 26. Also changing this year is that they are not going to the Liberal Tournament. Instead, they have a GWAC triangular and quadrangular scheduled.
