Lola Arvilla Brown
Lola Arvilla Brown, 98 died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at High Plains Assisted Living in Lakin, Kansas. She was born September 15, 1917 in Danbury, Nebraska the daughter of Loyal Townsend & Myrtle Olive (Boyer) Parker.
Lola grew up in Danbury, Ne. where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1934. On September 15, 1935, she married Rollo V. Brown in Danbury, Ne. They lived in Danbury for a short time. During WWII they lived at Wendover Field, Utah and Lola worked in the motor pool while Rollo was serving in the Army Air Corp. After the service, they lived in Fulton, Missouri, and later moved to Macon, Missouri. In 1958 they moved to Kendall, Kansas where they purchased and operated the grocery store and post office. Lola worked as a clerk at the grocery store and later worked as Postmaster. Lola later moved to Lakin, Kansas in 2012 and has lived in Lakin since. She has been a member of the Kendall United Methodist Church since 1958, a 77 year member of The Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Beauceant, and a 65 year member in the McDonald Ryan Auxiliary Unit #576 of Danbury, Nebraska. Lola enjoyed running the store in Kendall, bowling, playing cards, cross word puzzles, handy work, watching Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and as an avid sports fan she loved to watch Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs, the Atlanta Braves, and the Kansas City Royals. Her Grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved to attend all of their sporting events and spend time with them.
Survivors include a son Jack & wife Bess Brown of Salt Lake City, Utah; 9 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Lola is preceded in death by her husband Rollo who died on October 7, 2004. She is also preceded in death by a daughter Joan Lennington; her Son-In-Law Arnold Lennington; and a Grandson John William Jury.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Lakin with Rev. Aaron Duell officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family request memorials given to the Order of the Eastern Star in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
