Baker stops in Scott City for book autographs

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–From Utica, Scott City, Wichita, to now New York City, the stage has certainly gotten bigger for Ron Baker. So far on every stage since he’s been a child, Baker has stepped up to the challenge, from leading Scott City to the 3A State Championship in 2011, to helping the Shockers reach the Final Four in Atlanta in 2013. Now he’s hit the biggest stage of his basketball playing days: the NBA.

Thursday afternoon at Scott Community High School, Baker was on the third stop of his book tour, where his basketball career blossomed. Hundreds of fans from all over southwest Kansas filed in to get their book titled “You’re Too Big To Dream Small” autographed. Baker wrote the children’s book to motive young kids to pursue their dreams.

To say it has been a wild ride for Baker since playing his last game as a Wichita State Shocker is an understatement. The graduate signed with an agent in Los Angeles, tried out for several NBA teams prior to the June 23 NBA Draft, and agreed to a one-year partially guaranteed contract with the New York Knicks after going undrafted that night. On Monday, Baker and the Knicks made it official on his one-year deal, and will report to New York on August 17 for a preseason training camp.
