Winds Reach Hurricane Force During Friday’s Storms
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Several tornado warnings were posted last night along with heavy rains, but the real threat from all the storms were the high winds.
The National Weather Service reports peak winds reached 117MPH at the Meade Airport. Garden City had 74 MPH recorded at the airport and winds measured at 80MPH did some damage to homes and blew out some windows on the west side of Dodge City. Those are some preliminary reports a further examination of the area affected will be done over the weekend.
The Hamilton County Sheriff also reported numerous streets were flooded and travel was strongly discouraged Friday night.
