Beaver baseball shutout in Colby

Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In an effort to try and build momentum heading in to regionals next week, the Scott City Beavers wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday in a makeup doubleheader against the Colby Eagles. Unfortunately for the Beavers, the offensive struggles continued, in losses of 9-0 and 10-0.

In the first game, Colby jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, and then scored three and two runs respectively in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 9-0, and a score that would hold up in the end. Scott City had their chances in the game, as they had eight hits, but ended leaving seven batters on base. Defensively, three errors plagued the Beavers. Drew Duff had three hits, while Todd Morris and Kyle Cure had two hits apiece. Gustavo Gonzalez took the loss, giving up nine runs, five earned, on 13 hits in six innings on the mound. 

The second game saw the Eagles of Colby end the game in the fifth inning, as they bookended the scoring with four runs in the first and fifth innings. They also added a run in the second and fourth frames. Scott City had only four hits, with two coming from Kevin Aguilera. Justin Faurot took the loss, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs, seven earned, on 12 hits. Todd Morris gave up an unearned run in 1/3 inning of pitching relief. 

Scott City closed out the regular season at 3-17 overall, and 1-9 in GWAC play. They will be the sixth seed in the Larned Regional on Monday, May 16. Colby improved to 5-11 on the year, and finished 5-5 in league play. They will host TMP Marian on Thursday, before traveling to Hugoton for Regionals next Tuesday.
