Scott City, Ulysses baseball split doubleheader
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Beavers and Ulysses Tigers split a doubleheader on Tuesday in a pair of shutout games. Scott City won the first game 3-0, while Ulysses won the finale 7-0.
In the first game, it was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Beavers scored all three of their runs. Gustavo Gonzalez, Aaron Hoopes and Chase Rumford each drove in runs. Gonzalez and Kyle Cure had two hits each for Scott City, as they outhit the Tigers 5-4. Picking up the win was Gonzalez, striking out six batters in seven innings of work.
Game two saw Ulysses jump out quickly to a five-run lead after two innings and added two more in the sixth for the 7-0 win. Aaron Hoopes took the loss, giving up five runs on only three hits in 1 2/3 innings pitched. Just Faurot went the rest of the way, scattering two runs on five hits in the final 4 1/3 innings pitched. The Beavers had only three hits in game two.
Scott City is 3-13 on the year, 1-5 in league play, and hosts Hugoton Friday for their final home games of the year, before playing at Colby next Tuesday at noon. Ulysses is 4-10 overall, and 3-5 in the GWAC, and will play at Elkhart on Thursday.
