Broncbuster baseball rallies again; surges past McCook

McCook, Neb (westernkansasnews.com)-Digging out of early holes has become common place for Broncbuster baseball.

On Thursday, Chris Finnegan’s team once again put their rally caps to good use.

Garden City overcame a 4-1 deficit, scoring three runs in the ninth to push past McCook 13-10.

“It’s a good road win for us,” Finnegan said afterwards. “But now we have to focus on Pratt. It should be an interesting weekend.”

After Garden City tied the game at 4 in the top of the fourth, the Indians stormed back in front on the heels of three straight walks, a wild pitch and an RBI single gave McCook a 7-4 edge.

Then, the Broncbusters made their move, scoring six runs over the next two innings to jump in front 10-7. McCook countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth-spearheaded by Keanu Van Kuren’s lead-off double. Dominic Paratore then evened things up with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

The score stayed that way until the ninth, when Kyle Lope laced a two-run single to give the Broncbusters a 12-10 edge. Eventually, the Indians would walk in a run with the bases loaded.

Reilly O’Rourke pitched around a lead-off walk in the ninth, eventually striking out Nathan Schenck to end the game.
