Lopez grand slam lifts Broncbusters

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Kyle Lopez always carries a dangerous bat.

Even on a day where the brown and gold traded in aluminum for wood.

It didn’t matter.

Lopez turned a one-run deficit into a three-run lead with one swing of the bat in the fifth. His two-out grand slam gave the Broncbusters a lead they never relinquished on their way to a 6-2 victory over Otero Thursday afternoon at Williams Stadium.

“As good as that home run was, it was our pitching that was impressive,” Head Coach Chris Finnegan said afterwards.

Noah Foreman, making his first start of the year, was sensational. He allowed just two hits in three innings of work. In fact, for the game, Broncbuster pitching yielded just four total.

Still, Otero took the lead in the fourth. Quinton Bonnell issued a lead-off walk before Colton Wardle slapped a run-scoring double to put the Rattlers on top 1-0.

Otero added two runs in the sixth before the Broncbusters slammed the door with two of their own in the bottom of the seventh.
