Ginger Lee Hampton, age 70, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 10th, 2016, after complications from a lengthy illness.

Ginger was born on October 23, 1945, in Pratt, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late William and Genevieve “Jenny” Copeland of Ulysses, Kansas. The Copeland’s settled in Ulysses in 1949 and Ginger graduated from Ulysses High School in May of 1963. She became the wife of Carl L. Hampton on December 14, 1963, in a ceremony held at the United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas. Carl and Ginger soon welcomed two daughters and Ginger began her devoted life as a wife and mother.

In service of Carl’s career, they called a number of places home over the years together as a family. They lived in Ulysses, Tonganoxie, Ellsworth, and Ottawa, KS, and later moved to Joplin, Missouri. During the past five years they have resided in Topeka, KS. During the later years of raising their children, Ginger held several different jobs, including working as a teller at a bank, an office assistant at an optometrist office, and in Joplin teamed up with Carl as a realtor.

Ginger’s passion was always her family and her love and devotion to Christ. She was a member of multiple prayer and Bible study groups throughout her life. She was also involved in jail ministry for some time, and always was a strong Christian foundation among her family and friends. Ginger had a soft heart toward all of God’s creatures and often took in stray animals and fed the neighborhood birds.

Preceding her in death were her parents. She is survived by her husband, Carl of Topeka, KS; her daughters, Gina Hasty (Scott) of Avon, Indiana, and Tonya Cape (Ed) of Topeka, KS; granddaughters, Rachel and Brooke Hasty of Avon, Indiana and Audrey Cape of Topeka, KS. Ginger also enjoyed a very special relationship with her close friend and caregiver, Kelley Kennedy of Topeka, KS.

Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Topeka First Assembly of God, 500 SW 27th Street, Topeka KS 66611. 

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses KS. with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research in care of Garnand Funeral Home 405 W. Grant Ulysses, KS 67880.
