Scott City Volleyball Splits at Holcomb
Holcomb, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver Volleyball team split a triangular Tuesday against Southwestern Heights and Holcomb.
Scott City started off with Southwestern Heights. The Lady Beavers defeated the Lady Mustangs September 20 at their place in a triangular. Just like their earlier matchup, Scott City and Southwestern Heights would play to three sets. Set number one saw the Lady Mustangs pull away midway through and take the set 25-18. Scott City came out on a tear in the second set, leading 15-1 at one point, and cruised to a 25-13 victory. The final set was tight early on with the Lady Beavers leading most of the way. After Southwestern Heights tied the set at 13, Scott City would close the match with a 12-2 run to claim the set.
The finale pitted two GWAC foes for the first time this year. Holcomb used a big run midway through the first set and held off a Lady Beaver comeback attempt to take it 25-21. In the second set. it would be tight throughout, but after Scott City would cut the Lady Longhorn lead to 21-20, Holcomb closed with four of the final five points of the set to win the match over the Lady Beavers
Holcomb also swept Southwestern Heights in straight sets in the first match of the day.
After Tuesday, Scott City is now 14-8 on the season, and will play in Garden City Thursday against Dodge City, Garden City and Ulysses before hosting their own invitational Saturday.
