AmTrak, BNSF Sue Cimarron Crossing Feeders For March’s Train Derailment

Cimarron, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Amtrak and BNSF have filed the paperwork to sue Cimarron Crossing Feeders for damage they say was done to the railroad prior to the derailment March 14th that injured 28 people, two seriously.

The National Transportation Safety Board mentioned in their preliminary findings they spotted fresh tire marks located near the railroad that matched a feeder truck licensed to Cimarron Crossing Feeders. A final report is expected within a year.

Amtrak and BNSF have accused Cimarron Feeders of responsibility by not reporting truck damage that took place prior to the accident. Amtrak says employees with the feed lot left a feeder truck unattended, out of gear and without the brakes on when it rolled over the tracks causing a shift in the line by one foot.
