School Board Approves Replacing Field Turf at Horace Good
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The School Board at USD 457 in Garden City approved putting in new field turf for Horace Good Middle School, but not without some discussion Monday night. The old turf has been deemed unsafe. Total pricetag is 365-thousand dollars.
Board member Mark Rude expressed his concern with the heating and air condition unit at Garden City High School which is expected to cost 270-thousand dollars. Rude says making this repair first was a higher priority and community responsibility. He said other accommodations could be made to have practices and games elsewhere for another year until the turf was replaced.
Superintendent Dr. Steven Karlin told board members they recently found out about the heating and AC problems at the high school and will do everything they can to fix the problem regardless of whether board members voted to replace the turf at Horace Good or not. The money for the new turf at Horace Good will be drawn out from part of the bond fund passed by voters.
