Melvin W. Holmes, age 97, died February 20, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on June 1, 1918 in Ness County, Kansas the son of George C. and Rosa E. Beye Holmes, He was a Garden City, Kansas resident from 1957 moving from Hallsville, Missouri and was the owner and operator of Holmes Reality. In March of 2015 he moved to Riley, Kansas.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW both of Garden City, Kansas. Melvin was a US Navy Veteran of World War II.

On October 5, 1947 he married Dorothy Maurine Massey in Dodge City, Kansas. She passed away on December 31, 2009.

Survivors include: Two Sons, Jerry and Emily Holmes of Amarillo, Texas, Lynn and Theresa Holmes of Garden City, Kansas, Two Daughters, Carol and Melvin Rupp of Manhattan, Kansas, Marla and Joe Jenkins of Roswell, New Mexico, Two Sisters Violet Smith of Garden City, Kansas, Georgia McDonald of Sarasota, Florida, 13 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, four sisters, and one step-daughter Kay Brecheisen.

Funeral services will be held at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016 with the Rev. David Bell presiding.

Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.

Calling times will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas.
