Thomas “Mac” M. Keeley

Thomas “Mac” M. Keeley, 87, died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. 

He was born April 12, 1928 at Larned, the son of James Edward and Leeta (McConnaughhay) Keeley. He was a Dodge City resident since 1956, moving after teaching stints in Kingsdown and Spearville. He taught at Dodge City High School for 35 years, retiring in 1990. 

He served in the United States Navy at the end of WWII. 

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and former member of the Lions Club both in Dodge City as well as the National Education Association. 

On November 19, 1955 he married Alethea Hornung at Spearville. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2005. 

Survivors include: 2 sons, Bill and wife Kathy, LaCrosse and Tom and Kim Provau, Clearwater, Kansas; 2 daughters, Michelle “Shelley” Keeley, Dodge City and Nancy Whitson and husband Chris, Dodge City; a sister, Merrilee Hester, Gilroy, California; 8 grandchildren, Amanda Whitson, Lenexa, Clint Whitson and wife Jenny, Lenexa, Whitney Wempe and husband Sam, Topeka, Mitch Keeley, LaCrosse, Olivia Keeley, Manhattan, Kip Keeley, Manhattan, Colton Keeley, Wichita and Carson Keeley, Clearwater, Kansas; 2 great grandchildren, Brady Wetzel, Manhattan and Reagan Wempe, Topeka; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nephews and nieces. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Cheryl Keeley and 3 brothers, Terry, John “Pat” and James Keeley. 

Vigil service will be at 7:30 pm Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will be at 1:30 pm Friday at St. John Cemetery, Spearville, with military honors by Military Honors for the State of Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
