Classifications Set by KSHSAA

Topeka, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Kansas State High School Activities Association has set the classifications for the 2012-13 school year. Thursday’s numbers released are for all activities with the exception of football, which is done on a two-year cycle.

Changes for schools in Southwest Kansas include Hodgeman County and South Gray moving from Class 1A to Class 2A, and Kinsley dropping from Class 2A to Class 1A.

Notable changes statewide include Leavenworth and Shawnee Mission South dropping from Class 6A to Class 5A, St. James Academy and Maize South move up to Class 5A from Class 4A, Highland Park drops from Class 5A to Class 4A, Goodland bumps up to Class 4A, Hiawatha drops from Class 4A to Class 3A, Burden-Central moved up to Class 2A from Class 1A, and Rawlins County, Trego, Olpe and Lebo drop to Class 1A.

Holcomb had the largest count in Class 3A with 256, and was two short of the lowest count in Class 4A. Garden City is the fifth largest school in Kansas with 2032. South Central was the largest Class 1A School with 101 students.
