Swender Supports Flexibility in New Community College Teacher Bill
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) A bill passed by a key legislative committee would not automatic extend employee protections for teachers at community colleges in Kansas based on past experience is now moving on to the full house for a vote. Current law states that teachers are eligible for a removal hearing if they taught four years at the same college or three at another community college.
GCCC President Doctor Herbert Swender believes this bill brings flexibility for oversight of personnel that does not exist now.
If the bill becomes law Doctor Swender is open to ensuring good teachers feel some sense of job security.
Those terms are subject to further negotiation between teachers and administrators. Swender says the bill mirrors the law recently passed for K-12.
