Lanelle D. Messenger, 77 died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born February 14, 1938 in Memphis, Texas the daughter of Talmadge Bethel “Bud” and Leveda Emily (Edwards) Creach.
As a child, Lanelle lived in various places with her family before moving to Dumas, Texas. She attended school in Dumas. On February 19, 1955, she married Neil Danner Messenger in Clayton, New Mexico. They lived in Middlewell, Texas. A homemaker, Lanelle later began working for Boss Irrigation Co. In 1972, she moved with her family to Garden City where she has lived since. In 1979, Lanelle became broker and owner of Heritage Realty Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, the Elks Lodge, a past president of the Garden City Board of Realtors, and a member of the Kansas Association of Realtors where she served on numerous state sub-committees. Lanelle enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing bridge, square dancing, painting, shopping, shopping, and shopping.
Survivors include her children Rickilene & husband Joe Emery of Wichita, Ks., Deborah L. & husband Patrick Mossman of Kerrville, Tx., Daniel N. & wife Chris Messenger of Garden City, Ks., Tony L. & wife Jackie Messenger of Garden City, Ks., and Marty & husband Daryl Dinkel of Garden City, Ks.; a sister Joyce Marie & husband Burle Megason of Hobbs, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Lanelle is preceded in death by her husband Neil who died on May 23, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a son Gary Edward Messenger; 2 grandsons Devin Emery and Thomas Messenger; and two brothers Tommy Creach and Roy Lee Creach.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the First United Methodist Church of Garden City or to the Middlewell United Methodist Church of Middlewell, Tx. both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
