Nettie Louise Hecox Brown
Nettie Louise Hecox Brown, age 79 of Arvada, Colorado and wife of Horace “Weldon” Brown (1930-2008), passed away on Saturday December 19, 2015. She was born to the late Jay Murl Hecox and Mary Louise (Miner) Hecox on December 5, 1936 at home in Tyrone, Oklahoma.
Nettie attended and graduated Tyrone High School in 1955 before working at an old five and dime store in Liberal, Kansas. She was later employed by People’s National Bank. One day a supervisor at the Liberal Savings and Loan asked her if she liked working at People’s National Bank and offered her a position. Nettie took him up on his offer and worked at the Liberal Savings and Loan for 33 years -retiring as a Vice President.
Nettie married Weldon Brown on May 2, 1958. Nettie and Weldon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just prior to his passing on December 10, 2008.
Nettie moved to Liberal, Kansas as a young woman out of high school and remained in Liberal for the majority of her life. The summer of 2011, with failing health, Nettie moved to Colorado to be closer to her niece, her niece’s family and healthcare providers who could offer more and better choices. Nettie is survived by her doctor – Dr. Yolanda Bogart – whom she adored and who is responsible for extending Nettie’s life far longer than expected.
Family and friends were Nettie’s passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain friends and family at her home.
Nettie is survived by her only living sibling – Lester Hecox of Wichita, KS; numerous sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws on the Brown side; and too many nieces, nephews and cousins to mention. She will be missed.
Nettie fondly remembers and will be joining her other siblings who’ve passed – Orville and Juanita (Scott) Hecox; Norma (Hecox) Trahern; Virgil and Beulah (Payne) Hecox; Leo and Thelma (Hecox) Ehrhardt; eighteen-month-old baby sister Emma Charlene; Lester (surviving) and Vivian (Tracy) Hecox. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28th, 2015 at he Miller Mortuary Chapel. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Liberal City Cemetery.
