What King Heard Could Speak Volumes For Western Kansas Roads

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) In a recent meeting from Garden City with Kansas Secretary of State Mike King, elected officials in our area expressed why keeping our infrastructure strong is so vitally important. Here is what the secretary heard.

While the state continues to slash budgets because gas prices continue to fall, there is a silver lining when it comes to new road construction.

Secretary King identifies the one road project in the works that will have the greatest benefit for Southwest Kansas.

Safety is the biggest concern and that is why widening US 54 is so important.

King encourages his counterparts in other state to help improve their part of the highway too.

Added to this topic of improving roads is the trucking and shipping hub planned for Garden City. City officials need to take one last step before construction of the facility can move forward.  King goes over what details still need to be ironed out.

The written proposal will determine how much money the state kicks in for the facility.  Economic development will have their business and marketing plan submitted to KDOT by the end of the week.
