City Fills 386K Gap in Recreation Commission’s Budget

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Only days after discovering the problem, The Garden City Commission approved an emergency request from the Rec Board for about 386-thousand dollars to meet payroll and cover expenses.  Rec Boardmember Myca Bunch pinpointed one of the reasons for the shortfall.

City Manager Matt Allen says commissioners are taking steps to get the money returned.

Allen says a third party will also do a separate audit of the rec commission at the city’s expense, but what are the long term effects? Rec Boardmember Myca Bunch alluded to it during Wednesday’s city commission meeting.

Bunch also mentioned increased fees as a way to regain the rec’s financial footing.
