Most of the Workers at Hugoton Plant Laid Off
Hugoton, KS (westernkansasnews.com) A little more than a year after Abengoa opened its cellulosic ethanol plant in Hugoton the future of the facility is now in doubt.
Neal Gillespie, Executive Director with Stevens County Economic Development confirms Abengoa is seeking bankruptcy protection and has laid off most of its 50 workers at the Hugoton plant. The company is now working with a skelton staff of six in Hugoton. A message has been left with officials at Abengoa seeking comment. If they return our call we will let you know.
Gillespie believes that even though these layoffs greatly impact those who were let go at the plant, he is confident the future for the cellulosic plant remains bright once Abengoa clears this financial hurdle.
