Alice M. Sutton, age 83, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at her residence in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on May, 22, 1932 the daughter of Les and Maude Sutton.

With a desire for independence, she decided to petition the state to become her own guardian. She had to prove she was competent and that she could make her own decisions. Alice is the only person we know that has done this to become her own guardian. This Victory opened up the world Alice had always wanted; to make her own decisions including fulfilling a life long dream to go to Nashville. Over the years Alice’s life has been filled with work, volunteerism and what she is most proud of being a former member of the Kansas and National Developmental Disabilities Councils and a voting member of the Mosaic Human Rights Committee. Taking numerous trips to Topeka and Washington D.C. to talk to legislators about the rights of those with disabilities. On one of her trips to Washington she met Senator Pat Roberts. While in Topeka, Kansas Alice met Senator Garret Love. She has met many people and made an impact on many Lives.

Her strong will and independent life style was evident up until The Lord called her home. She ran her own business out of her room by selling soda for 50 cents a can.

She was a member of the Nazarene Church, Kansas and National Development Disabilities Council, and the Self Advocacy Coalition of Kansas, and the Mosaic Human Rights Committee.

Survivors include:
