Lady Leopards thump Scott City

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On Senior Parent Recognition Night Thursday night at Scott City, the Lady Beavers played host to the LaCrosse Lady Leopards in a battle of teams that featured a pair of sisters facing off. The Lady Leopards are coached by Mindi Dreiling, who is the younger sister of Lady Beaver coach Megan Gentry. Unfortunately for Scott City, the LaCrosse proved to be too much, as they dominated the dual with a 25-9, 25-17, 25-16 win.

The Lady Leopards had their way to start the first set, by scoring the set’s first 13 points, and cruised to the 25-9 win. It was a set where Scott City (2-11) had no answer for a rally.

In the second set, the Lady Beavers showed more of a fight, as they led by a point on three different occasions. However, LaCrosse proved why they are the No. 3 Ranked team in Class 1A, Division I. The Lady Leopards trailed 7-6, and used an 8-0 run to lead 14-7. Scott City got it to within four points on a couple of occasions, but it was too much to overcome.

Starting off the third set had a similar feel as the first set. LaCrosse jumped out to a 9-1 lead. Scott City however, put up a fight to pull it to within 9-6, only to see the Lady Leopards pull away. The Lady Beavers rallied for four straight when LaCrosse (15-2) had match point, but it was ultimately too much to overcome.

Scott City has now lost five straight, and will have over a week to prepare for the Oakley Invitational Tournament on Saturday, October 3. Parings for the tournament should be released sometime next week. LaCrosse will compete at the Kiowa County Invitational in Greensburg on Saturday.
