Scott City Tennis Begins Season With Tough Competition in Hoisington
Hoisington, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Playing in their first varsity competition of the season, the Scott City Lady Beaver Tennis team took to the courts Tuesday in Hoisington for their first matches of the season. Central Plains won the meet with 26 points, as they won each division. Hoisington finished in second with 13, St. John in third with 10, and Scott City had five points.
For the Lady Beavers, Callan Rice went 0-3 in No. 1 Singles, losing to Central Plains 8-0, 8-3 to Hoisington and 8-1 to St. John. Playing No. 2 Singles was Leah Artz. Artz went 1-1 on the day, falling to Central Plains 8-2 and defeating St. John 8-4, and placed second. The No. 1 Doubles team of Holly Wilcoxson and Diana Rodriguez finished third on the day with a 1-2 record. They fell to Central Plains and Hoisington 8-1, and ended their day with an 8-2 win over St. John. For the No. 2 Doubles team of Brianna Emahizer and Jody Gunther, it was a tough day, going 0-3 with losses to Central Plains and St. John 8-1 and an 8-4 loss to Hoisington.
Up next for the varsity team is a meet Thursday in Ulysses that begins at 3 pm.
