Difficult Fight to Prevent GITMO Detainees From Coming to Kansas
(westernkansasnews.com) Terrorists have been held at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba for over a decade now. Barack Obama vowed to close Gitmo during his first campaign for president in 2008 and now he may finally reach his goal. Obama wants to move detainees to Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach claims moving forward with this plan violates federal law. Kansas has partnered with another state that is also under consideration to house these terrorists.
If you think the solution is for the state to sue the federal government, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach says it might not be that easy.
The key words are personally injured this despite Kobach’s assertion that the president would violate a law passed by Congress which prohibits moving these detainees at Guantanamo Bay to the US mainland.
