Scott City opens GWAC schedule with Colby

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two teams that have been on the opposite end of the Great West Activities Conference collide in Scott City tonight, as the Beavers face the Colby Eagles in their home opener, and the first of five straight GWAC games.

Colby comes in with an 0-1 record after their 13-6 setback to Oakley last Friday night to start the 2015 season. After a scoreless first half, the Eagles trailed 7-6 going into the final quarter. The Plainsmen scored on the final play of the game on an interception that thwarted the Colby Hail Mary attempt. In last weeks game, the Eagles outgained Oakley 232-133, but committed five turnovers. 

Scott City rallied from a 15-10 halftime deficit to win their eighth straight season opener in a 30-15 win at Clearwater last Friday night. The Beavers were dominant on defense, allowing just 15 yards and no first downs in the final three quarters of the game, while dominating the time of possession in the second half. In the game, Scott City got 233 yards on the ground, led by Cooper Griffith’s 115 yards and three scores, and limited the Indians to 115 yards of offense. 

Over the five-year span of the GWAC, Colby is 4-21, while Scott City is 24-1. In that five-year, span, Scott City has won by an average of 44-12. The Beavers have won the last 11 games in the series, dating back to 2000, and has a 23-15 edge in the all-time series.
