John E. Davis
John E. Davis, 89, died August 14, 2015 at his home in Sublette. He was born on January 19, 1926 on the family farm near Moscow, the tenth of thirteen children born to Earl D. and Celestia (Brown) Davis.
John’s childhood was spent at Moscow and he attended school there. On July 15, 1945, he married Doris Jean Snyder in Lakin. She preceded him in death on December 5, 1980. After their marriage, they farmed near Copeland. They later moved to the farm north of Sublette where they lived until moving to town in 1967. John and Doris Jean worked side by side in everything they did. John could have never loved anyone more than he did Doris Jean and this was true for Doris Jean about John. John was actively involved in his farming operations until six years ago when due to his health he had to retire. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and meeting his friends at John Deere for coffee. John attended as many of his grandchildren’s activities and ballgames as he could.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sublette.
John is survived by four children, Kenneth Davis and wife Janet of Goodland, Carolyn Withers and husband Charlie of Paris, Texas, Virginia Webber and husband Tim of Sublette, and Larry Davis and wife Barbara of Sublette; one sister, Lucille Ornelas of Florence, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Doris Jean, John is preceded in death by his parents; 11 siblings; and one grandson, Chase Mitchell Webber.
