New Proposed EPA Regulations Has Kansas AG Ready to Act

(westernkansasnews.com) Kansas and other states thought six weeks ago they had won a major battle when the US Supreme Court decided the Environmental Protection Agency needed to consider the cost of new regulations on coal-fired power plants. This week the issue was revisited when President Obama made new proposed regulations even tougher.

State Attorney General Derek Schmidt knows ultimately you the customer bear the costs of any new regulation.

Estimates are if the new rules are allowed to stay, the average energy bill could increase by 40 percent.  Instead of pushing for more regulations, Schmidt would rather have this discussion in the public sphere and not in the courts.

Schmidt has not ruled out legal action as a way of fighting back against these new regulations.
