Sheila D. Smith
Sheila D. Smith, 80 died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born February 6, 1935 in Garden City the daughter of Emmett & Freda D. (Gardner) Goodman.
Sheila has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. She attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1953. A homemaker, Sheila also worked as an office manager at Sunflower Machine. She was a 61-year member of the First Christian Church in Garden City. She also was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship; she was very active with the Class of 1953 activities, Lenten Luncheons, Vacation Bible School, and Fun Nights at Buffalo Jones School. Sheila enjoyed quilting, taking photos and making photo albums, cooking, baking, Bible studies, and family genealogy.
On May 9, 1954, she married William R. Smith in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include three children Carla Sue & husband Doug Page of Divide, Co., William Scott Smith of Garden City, Ks., and Estella Marie & husband Steve Thompson of Pleasanton, Ks.; two sisters Delomia Jean Hurst of Johnson, Ks. and Darby Widows of Pennsylvania; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Sheila is preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather James Waller; two sons William Mitchell Smith and Gregory James Smith; and a brother Terry Goodman.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Garden City with Rev. Scott Schurle officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the First Christian Church Bereavement Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
