Delores Kaye Gillen

Delores Kaye Gillen, 70 died Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born August 29, 1944 in Garden City the daughter of Harold R. & Sadie M. (Ardery) Kleysteuber.

Delores grew up on the family farm in Southeast Finney County. She attended Plymell and West Point Elementary school in Finney County. Delores moved with her family to Garden City when she started high school. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1962. She then attended and graduated from Garden City Junior College. A homemaker, Delores also owned and operated a dance studio for 18 years. She also owned and operated the Vogue Shop and the Vogue Boutique. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women; the Builders Sunday School Class; and Salmagundi. Delores also volunteered for the Southwest Kansas Pro-Am Golf Tournament since 1986; Beef Empire Days; Live On Stage; the Miss Garden City Pageant; and a past 4-H leader of the Wide Awake 4-H. Delores enjoyed baking especially cinnamon rolls; cooking, golfing, dancing, shopping, attending Broadway musicals and shows, and entertaining family and friends.

On October 6, 1963, she married Dale Gillen in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include a son Mark & wife Amy Gillen of Garden City; a daughter Deann Gillen-Lehman of Garden City; a brother Dennis & wife Jan Kleysteuber of Garden City; 4 grandchildren Timothy, Cole, Abby, & Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. Brian Faust officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday all at Garnand Funeral Home. The family requests memorials given to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or to the Finney County Historical Society both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
