GCHS golf places fifth at state

Hutchinson, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-There wasn’t really much not to like about Garden City golfer Taylor Larsen’s game at Tuesday’s 6A state tournament at Carey Park.

The sophomore shot a team-best 70, placing third behind state champion Andy Spencer from Shawnee Mission East. The Buffaloes finished fifth, firing a season-low 302.

“We had opportunities to score much lower,” Larsen said afterwards. “But we are really excited about next year and the guys we have coming back.”

Garden City should be thrilled to have Larsen back, who totaled three birdies during his final round of 2015.

As for the rest of his team, Logan Durst finished tied for 13th after shooting a 76. Daniel Gaspar, who will not be back next year because his family is moving out of state, shot a 76; Connor Schultz shot an 80; Tristan Corrales an 83 and Brendan Hopkins an 88.

Dodge City had three qualify for state. Freshman Canyon Owens finished 24th with a season-best 77. Dylan Ratts shot an 85, while Matthew Vogel carded an 87.
