GCHS soccer shutout; season ends

Wichita, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Garden City girls soccer had more of their fair share of trips to Wichita; most of them with success. Thursday night just was not one of them.

Jordan Eickelman scored three times in the second half, including two in a six-minute span to put the match away as Derby beat the Buffaloes 4-0 in the 6A regional finals at Panther Stadium.

“We did a lot more things than most people expected us to do,” senior Megan Martinez said. “Especially with all the seniors we lost.”

Lexi Winkle put the Panthers on the board first with a goal in the 27th minute. From there, it was a defensive struggle until five minutes into the final period. Eickelman took a pass from Katie Hartman and pushed the ball into the back of the net, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Eickleman would score again in the 52nd and 58th minutes.

Derby out shot Garden City 13-9.

Garden City’s season ends at 13-5.
