School Board, County Tighten Their Belts

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Both USD 457 in Garden City and the Finney County Commission are dealing with tight budgets each in their own way. The school board went through with the rest of proposed cuts that were approved last year, but were not fully implemented. They also raised the local optimum budget. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Steve Karlin on what this fund does.

The Finney County Commission acting on a recommendation from County Administrator Randy Partington has a hiring freeze for most departments. Partington says in order to keep the mill at current levels county government will have to cut their budget by 2.5 million for next year.
