Gundy recognized as top coach; Busters lose in finals
El Dorado, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Becky Gundy believed she had one of the most talented teams in the Jayhawk Conference. Through 26 games, it was hard to convince even her own team of that after they sputtered to an 11-15 start. But last time anyone checked, conference titles are not won in February and March.
Garden City finished the regular season by winning 20 out of their last 27 games. Then in the postseason, the Busters knocked off two of the top seeds in the tournament Seward County and Butler before falling to Barton County in the finals 6-0 on Sunday.
That complete body of work earned Gundy Region VI Coach of the year honors.
“I am very proud of these girls,” Gundy said. “We just ran into a Barton team that was red hot.”
The Busters close the year at 34-27.
