Buster softball survives and advance

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-After a fourth straight loss back on March 11, Buster softball coach coach Becky Gundy had her arms crossed with a look of disgust.

“We’re just not doing the things we’re supposed to be doing,” she said after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Colby. “We are too good to be losing like this.”

Fast forward 30 days and Gundy’s troops have been resurrected. A second-half surge landed her team the third seed out of the Jayhawk West and a home playoff series. The Busters took full advantage.

Liberty Nelson provided the drama in the series opener, driving in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh in a 4-3 victory over Colby.

In the finale, there were no such dramatics; the Busters roasted the Trojans 9-4.

Garden City moves on to play the winner of Seward County and Pratt on Saturday.
