Police Kept Busy by High Speed Chase, Shoplifter

Garden City,KS (westernkansasnews.com)  Police report a high speed chase that started around noon Thursday on the 100 block of W. Hackberry Street. Officers were trying to stop 25 year old Emmanuel Holguin who was a suspect in a battery incident from the previous day. During the pursuit police say Holguin ran a red light at 4th and Fulton Street.

The suspect driving a 1997 Ford Mustang struck a 2002 Cadillac Escalade and then on impact hit a third car. Officers caught up with Holguin after leading them on a foot chase to the Budget Way Motors. Minor injuries were reported.

Monday afternoon Garden City Police attempted to apprehend a shoplifter of electronics items at Wal-mart. Police say officers were stationed at the front of the store. When the suspected later identified as 28 year old Frenando Arteaga saw the patrolmen he went back inside.

Officers say they chase down Arteaga on foot. A struggle ensued where Arteaga fell to the ground along with a concealed gun stashed in the suspect’s waistband. Arteaga is likely to face charges for drug possession and criminal use of a weapon.
