Buster baseball falls at McCook
McCook, Neb (westernkansasnews.com)-There’s been one constant for Garden City this season: errors. Four more on Wednesday cost them another game on the road.
Jordyn Compehos’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth gave McCook the lead for good as they pushed their way to a 5-3 victory.
“Four more errors killed us,” Garden City Head Coach Chris Finnegan said. “That’s been our problem all year. We pitched it well, and I thought we hit it well. But too many mistakes.”
The Busters dug themselves out of a 2-0 hole with Mason Brown’s run-scoring single in the third and Jake Tyrakoski’s RBI double in the fifth. But Sam Brunswick couldn’t hold it, hitting the first two batters he faced in the sixth. That was followed up by a Derron Davis single and Compehos’s sac fly.
The Indians touched up the Buster bullpen for two more runs in the seventh.
The loss drops Garden City to 27-23 overall. They are home this weekend for four with Hutch. All the games can be heard at westernkansasnews.com.
