GCHS girls soccer moves into finals of the Goddard Tournament

Goddard, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-It’s becoming more apparent that Garden City’s 11-1 loss to Wichita Northwest in their season opener is becoming more of a distant memory. 

Megan Martinez and Tiffany Butler each netted goals as Garden City overcame an early 1-0 deficit to beat Goddard Eisenhower 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals of the Goddard Tournament. 

Heather Bondie put Eisenhower up late in the first half, scoring on a corner kick in the 38th minute. 

Martinez tied the game 24 minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal before Butler put the Buffaloes on top for good with an unassisted score in the 70th minute. 

Garden City out shot Eisenhower 7-6. Ashley Richman recorded five saves. 

Next up: Championship Game vs. Andover who beat Rose Hill 2-1 in the other semifinal. They will play at 7 p.m.
