Wanda M. Rutherford

Wanda M. Rutherford, 88, died March 21, 2015 at Northwest Community Hospice in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was born on September 16, 1926 at Smithfield, Illinois the daughter of George and Lucy (Jones) Howerter. 

In 1936 she and her parents moved to Dodge City where she later graduated from Dodge City High School. On June 11, 1943 she married E. T. “Lefty” Rutherford in Buffalo, Oklahoma. They came back to Dodge City in 1945. She had worked part time at Wardrobe Cleaners and for Head Start in 1990 both of Dodge City. Wanda later moved to Palatine, Illinois to be close to her daughter. 

She was a member of the First Christian Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the former Moose Lodge all of Dodge City. 

Wanda is survived by a daughter Sandra Maiorano and husband Louis, Palatine, Illinois; a sister Betty Gillen, McCook, Nebraska; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Lefty” on April 7, 1989, a brother and two sisters. 

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. with Dr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
