State Needs to Keep Local Interests in Governing
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The state is always fighting the increasing overreach of the federal government, but in some instances the state will do the same thing to cities and counties. Issues like pushing forward with moving local elections to the fall is one of the ways the state can flex its muscle. Garden City Manager Matt Allen still believes keeping important decisions local is better.
Allen is worried about the influence exerted on candidates by making them partisan.
Allen is worried that money will become a sphere of influence if candidates had to declare a party.
The worry by declaring a party candidates would in some way become attached not only to the parties but outside political action groups.
