Marion Rumsey
Marion Rumsey, 94, left this world to join his Savior and family on March 3, 2015 at Lakepoint Nursing Center in Wichita. He was born on April 1, 1920 in Dodge City, the son of George and Bertie (Reed) Rumsey the youngest of eight brothers and sisters.
Marion graduated from Dodge City High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945. After the war he married his sweetheart Louise Cook and they established a home in Dodge City, where they raised two sons, Roger and Bob. As an adult he was very active in basketball, baseball and golf.
He was a former member of the First Baptist Church and Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. both of Dodge City.
Marion is survived by a son Roger Rumsey and wife Juanita, Wichita; a daughter-in-law Karen Rumsey of Arizona; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Rumsey, Nathan Rumsey, Sarah Ruud and Rachael Ross; six great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Louise on January 2, 2011, a son Robert Rumsey on August 4, 2013 and two grandsons, John and James Rumsey.
A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. There will not be any visitation. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
