Betty Jean Lohfink
Betty Jean Lohfink, 82, passed away February 15, 2015 at the Satanta Long Term Care Nursing Home with her family by her side.
She was born October 29, 1932, in Syracuse, to Harvey and Vada (Johnson) Wilson. Betty was raised in Copeland and married her love of sixty-three years, LeRoy Lohfink, on February 9, 1952. They made their home in Sublette. Betty was a homemaker and worked in the school cafeteria while raising three children: Rick, Penny and Jeannie. She is remembered by her family as a loving, caring and selfless mother and grandmother.
Betty was an active member of the Sublette Christian Church and joyfully prepared funeral dinners for services held at the church for many years.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life and they will fondly remember her. Betty and LeRoy enjoyed frequent lake camping with their grandchildren and teaching them how to “rough it.” She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard and her family enjoyed the fruits of her labor. It wasn’t a trip to grandma’s house without picking and eating fresh strawberries, cucumbers or tomatoes from the garden. Her weakness was garage sales; she was unable to pass up a great bargain!
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy of Sublette; son, Rick Lohfink and wife Gayla of Holcomb; daughters, Penny Beakley and husband Mike of Magnolia, Texas; Jeannie Trigg and husband Paul of Sublette; grandchildren Jeremy Godwin and wife Kristina, Jessica Mai and husband Clayton, Ryan Lohfink, Travis Beakley and wife Kelley, Jamie Trigg, Jordan Lohfink, Lauren Lohfink and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant sister Verna Marie, her parents, and grandparents C.W. and Nellie Johnson and Jessie and Effie Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Sublette Christian Church with Pastor David Erwin presiding. There will be no visitation as her body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Friends may sign the register book from noon to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette. Memorial contributions can be made to the City of Sublette Playground Fund in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared at swaimfuneralhome.com.
