Former Electric CEO Given Probation For Embezzling Company Funds

Lane Co., KS (westernkansasnews.com) The former CEO of the Lane-Scott Electric Cooperative has been sentenced in Lane County district court to twelve months probation after entering a no-contest plea for falsifying documents in order to claim company bonuses.  Earl Steffens has made restitution on almost 188-thousand dollars the court ordered him to pay.

Court documents show Steffens brought in bonuses for jobs created that were never needed and then would take the money.  An audit revealed discrepencies alerting others to what was going on.  Steffens will face no jail time as long as he does not violate the terms of his probation.
