Former Ft. Hays State receiver dies in apparent suicide
Tampa, Fla. (westernkansasnews.com)–Former Fort Hays State Tiger and current Tennessee Titan wide receiver O.J. Murdock died Monday morning after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to a Tampa Bay Times report, Murdock was found in his car around 8:30 local time parked in front of Middleton High School, where he attended school. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.
After high school, Murdock went to the University of South Carolina, where he played in only four games after his redshirt season. He then transferred to Pearl River Community College in Mississippi, then to Fort Hays State University in 2010, where he set single-season records for receiving yards (1,290) and yard per catch (21.5).
After going undrafted, Murdock signed with the Tennessee Titans in the offseason, but was on the injured reserve list after hurting his right achilles in training camp. He did not report to Titans training camp with the rest of the team Friday, because of “personal reasons” according to Titans coach Mike Munchak.
