Royals offense shut down in Seattle

Seattle, Wash. (westernkansasnews.com)–Jason Vargas gave up one run on a hit in eight innings pitched to give the Seattle Mariners a 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals last night in Seattle. The Royals’ lone run came in the fourth inning, when Billy Butler doubled to score Lorenzo Cain. Luis Mendoza took the loss for Kansas City. He gave up four runs on nine hits in five innings pitched. Game two of the four game series is tonight, as Jeremy Guthrie will start for the Royals, while Seattle is slated to start Blake Beaven in a 9:10 start at Safeco Field.
