Both Hugoton Teams Reach Blue and Red Finals

Hugoton, KS (westernkansasnews.com)  The Hugoton girls and boys basketball team did what they had to do in winning on their home floor Friday night and earn the opportunity to be in the championship games of the Blue and Red Classic on their own home floor.

For the girls they reached the 70’s for the third straight game in beating Hooker 73-47. Four different players scored in double figures led by freshman Dallie Hoskinson’s 18.   The gives her 46 points over two tournament games.  Katy Heger and Melissa Fabella connected on three 3’s. The Lady Eagles and early foul troubled limited Hooker all district player Kyra Cathcart to eleven points for the game.

In the boys contest Hugoton limited Lakin’s two big scorers Ryder Yakel and Ian Shelden to beat 54-43.  Yakel and Shelden scored 21 in their first round wins.  Yakel was limited to 11 points on three 3’s and Shelden finished with two points.

Hugoton took control by outscoring the Broncs 14-2 in the second quarter to take a ten point lead at halftime.  Zach Leininger finished with 16 for the Eagles while Kellen Watkins added 12.
