Buster Men pick up two wins heading into break
Liberal, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Coming off a couple of tough losses at home the previous weekend, the Garden City Buster men were looking to take some positive momentum into the semester break. With finals looming and a layoff for a few weeks, the Busters pushed their record to 11-3 over the weekend, winning 96-76 over the Oklahoma Outlaws Friday and 66-52 over On Point Prep on Saturday at The Green House in Liberal.
On Friday, the Busters led most of the way. After trailing early on 5-4, Garden City led by as many as 12 at 24-12, before the Oklahoma Outlaws made a run, cutting the deficit to one at 36-35. The Busters would close with seven straight points, and lead by eight at 43-35 at the break. After the Outlaws pulled to within 47-41, Garden City pulled away, using runs of nine and 11, and led by as many as 25 at 96-71 late in the game, before the Outlaws scored the final five points of the game. Richie Spiller led the way for Garden City with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyrell Springer led the scoring with 18 points, Tidell Pierre 16 and Davon Anderson 14. Oklahoma was led by Fayzon Richey with 31 points and Devante Moore with 22. The Busters shot 54% for the game, and outrebounded the Outlaws 51-31.

Saturday’s game saw a good start by Garden City, but a sluggish second half. After the Busters and On Point Academy were tied at nine with 14:07 remaining before halftime, Garden City closed out the first half on a 28-10 run to lead 37-19 at the break. That lead would eventually grow to 24 points at 43-19 with 16:31 left, when On Point made a rally. They would gradually chip away at the Buster lead, and pulled to within five at 51-46 with 5:29 left in the game. Garden City eventually settle down and scored eight of the games next 10 points and used a 7-2 run late to win 66-52. In the win, the Busters scored a season-low in points, and shot 37% for the game, and committed 14 turnovers. Antorian Moore led the charge for the Busters with 14 points, while Tyrell Springer and Tidell Pierre added 12 points. On Point Prep was led by Greg Austin with 19 points, all in the second half. He hit five three-pointers in the game, while Deshon Bell chipped in 11. On Point shot only 29% for the game, and the Busters forced 19 turnovers.

Garden City will play at Butler in El Dorado to begin Jayhawk Conference play on Saturday, January 3, to begin the 2015 portion of their schedule.
