Otero Women Beats GCCC Again in Rematch 68-60

La Junta, CO (westernkansasnews.com) The goal for the Garden City Community College women’s basketball team was ten wins before the Christmas break, but someone forgot to tell Otero.

Garden City jumped out to an 19-11 lead on the road despite their best player Losha Morris who received two early fouls and had to sit.  In the end Otero used a 19-4 first half run and 17-6 run in the second half to hold off the Broncbusters 68-60 and prevent GCCC (9-5) from notching their tenth win before the three week break.

Highlights

The loss left Broncbuster head coach Nick Salazar scratching his head.

Otero won their seventh game in the last eight contests against GCCC, but this time they did not need to win in the final seconds. The Lady Rattlers had four players in double figures led by Haley Martinez’s 16. Tashawya Edwards led GCCC with 10 points and Justina James logged in 35 minutes and hauled in 12 rebounds. Otero outrebounded Garden City 49-44 and hit 8-27 shots from three while Kate Inchun had the only two three pointers for Garden City (2-10 on 3’s as a team).

Head Coach Nick Salazar believes it will be good for his team to step away from the game for awhile.

When Garden City return they will have a road game at Butler January 3 and then host second ranked Hutchinson January 5.
