Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-It’s not often an interim coach can spark life into a struggling team. Abby Piah is defying those odds.
Garden City won their fourth straight Western Athletic Conference volleyball title on Saturday, sweeping Great Bend, Liberal and Dodge before taking down Hays in the finals.
“The girls were very consistent,” Piah said afterwards. “We defended very well. It was fun to watch.”
It’s been fun for everyone to watch-considering the Lady Buffs are now 13-4 since starting the season 7-11. And what’s even more impressive: they dropped only one set in four tournament matches.
Garden City beat Dodge City 25-21; Liberal 25-13, 25-13 and Great Bend 25-18, 22-25, 25-15 before sweeping Hays in the finals 25-22 and 25-14.
