Buffs golf regional runner up; soccer edges out North
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-For a split second following last year’s runner-up finish at state, reflection and reality set in that Abbi Shaddix was taking her unbelievable talents elsewhere. Later we found out there would be a coaching change.
No matter the so-called adversity, the Garden City girls’ golf team persevered through all of it, and are now a round away from claiming a state title. Walker Frey’s team completed a runner-up finish in Tuesday’s 6A regional at Reflection Golf Course in Wichita.
Sophomore Danielle Gaspar was tied for second before losing in a tiebreaker. She ended finishing third with a 90; Lindsay Bradstreet came in sixth with a 96. As a team, the Buffs shot a 403 behind regional champ Wichita Northwest’s 375.
As a team, Dodge City did not qualify-finishing fifth. But senior Whitney Winter punched her ticket to state with a 10th place finish. It’s her third trip in four years.
